Jim is a self-confessed fan of “crazy American” custom Wranglers and he set about making his Rubicon as extreme as legally possible. It’s called ‘Flex’ and that’s exactly what it does…
Owning a Wrangler was a childhood dream for Jim, one that he’s recently turned into a reality, and modded the heck out of.
In fact the list of mods that Jim provided, is one of the longest we’ve seen and the result is one seriously tricked out Wrangler.
Under the ‘hood’ is Jeep’s 3.8-litre petrol V6, to which Jim has added a Sprintex Supercharger and intercooler, Airaid cool air intake and a Rugged Ridge dual mount snorkel.
The driveline has been beefed up with the standard Jeep axles and uni-joints being replaced with considerably stronger RCV axles.
There is a bunch of Uneek bar work and protection gear bolted to this Wrangler, including one of their modular front bars, a rear bar, diff covers and a bash plate.
The Rubicon rides on 37″ Nitto Mud Grapplers wrapped around Mickey Thompson M/T Metal Series 17×9 rims.
Keeping the tyres clear of the guards is an AEV 3.5″ suspension lift, with extended control arms and King bump stops at both ends.
According to Jim, Flex is a weekend fun machine, built for off-road and camping trips.
Jeep Beach down at Robe in South Australia is Jim’s favourite destination, but he also enjoys visiting the Loveday 4X4 park, Terrowie, the Border Track and Saunders Gorge.
Jim made special mention of the guys down at Pro4X4 in Adelaide. They’ve performed all of the work transforming his Wrangler into ‘Flex’ and Jim tips his hat to them.
Well he would, if he wore a hat.
